Fanes- Senes- Braies Natural Park Visiting Centre

With its 25,680 hectares the Fanes- Senes- Braies Natural Park is the third largest of all natural parks in the province. The landscape is typically dolomitic and is characterised by vast plateaus that can be also found above the forest border. Furthermore, the landscape offers beautiful forests and splendid lakes. Because of the complex geomorphology the park is very interesting from a scientific point of view. Like in no other area of the Dolomites, the geomorphology of Fanes, Senes and Fosses is strongly characterised by a karst landscape with all its typical shapes: crevices, pits and dolines, often in which eternal lakes, or even more often temporary lakes are formed.

The centre of the characteristic spiral for the visitor is like a window facing out to the park from where you have great views. With the help of interactive instruments, games for children, video shows and points of information, discovery of this protected area can begin.

Here you will learn about the magical world of dome of the ladin tales and you will be taken back in time and visit the cave-bears cave. Furthermore you will become acquainted with the powers which have shaped and modelled our mountains. The visitor will also have the opportunity to explore some of the most characteristic vegetation areas of the natural park and in the gigantic terrariums you will be able to observe amphibians and reptiles, the smaller of the guests in our forests. Finally a game section and a botanic excursion outside the centre will give all of our younger visitors the chance to recognise the animals footsteps, to observe the world through a microscope, to research the remains of the bears fossils and they will have the opportunity to experience nature in a different way.

The visitor centre remains open from Christmas 2007 to the 31th of March 2008, from the 2nd of May to the 31th of October 2008 and from the 27th of december 2008 to 31th of March 2009, from Tuesday to Saturday, 9.30 - 12.30 and 16.00 - 19.00.
During July and August opened also on Sundays.
